SUMMARY

Objective of this VHVs work was to implement holistic community health management to upgrade villagers’ life quality at Baan Na Riang, Tambon Phai, Sai Mool district, Yasothorn province, between 2003 and 2014. Community committee had been authorized to handle 5 project sectors. In economic sector, foundation of rice enterprise to produce good quality rice seeds for germination as commercial and exchangeable purpose, and the agricultural and health project to improve farm’s productivity, were successfully achieved since 2001. In the sector of health care, village’s primary health care center was arranged to be a service center e.g. first aid, providing of hold-house medicine, screening of diabetic and hypertensive individuals, preventing and monitoring of dengue hemorrhagic fever and bird flu, protection of consumers in health, and surveying of basic minimum needs. In social development, formation and movement of several projects such as civil security volunteers, cremate welfare fund, and development projects for monasteries, schools and village. For educational-religious-cultural sector, a cultural committee had been appointed to handle its missions such as promoting and supporting projects for farmer’s custom preservation, preying custom in youth, and local sports for health and prevent addicts. In environmental and natural resource sector, there were a campaign to discard garbage, and a project to conserve local natural resource. After 14-year development, holistic progress of the community had been shown to be improved sustainably up to the present time e.g. villagers’ incomes and health status, acceptable community’s security and decreased addict problems, villagers’ realization to conserve natural resources and local customs, as well.

SITUATION AND SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROBLEM

An average-sized community of Baan Na Riang, Tambon Phai, Sai Mool district, Yasothorn province, had been stated to be complicated with many problematic issues such as poorness, addicts, life security, health, destroy of natural resources, and decline of environment. A development concept to solve each sector of whole problems would be not reasonable and sustainable. This lead to initiate an idea to implement holistic community health management to be applied herein, including sectors of economic, public health, social development, education-religion-culture, environment and natural resources. This aimed to improve villagers’ health and life quality as sustainable development, as real.

FRAMEWORK(S) /SCOPE

The project had been operated at Baan Na Riang, Tambon Phai, Sai Mool district, Yasothorn province, following the framework of holistic community health management, between 2003 and 2014.

OBJECTIVE(S)

To implement holistic community health management for the 5-sector improvement of villagers’ health and life quality at Baan Na Riang, Tambon Phai, Sai Mool district, Yasothorn province.

PROCEDURE

Planning Planning was held following community committee in collaborative organization with Tambon Phai health promoting hospital, Tambon Phai legislative authority, sub-district headman, village headmen and VHVs teams, under the concept of holistic community health management.


Action ; The author displayed himself as a projects’ leader, and a key organizer to collaborate with other local authorities and sectors.

ASSESSMENT

Projects and activities of the 5-sector holistic community health management, that had been done effectively within the community.

Out-Puts
• Economic sector; foundation of rice enterprise to produce good quality rice seeds for germination as commercial and exchangeable purpose, and the agricultural and health project to improve farm’s productivity, were successfully achieved since 2001.
• Health care sector; village’s primary health care center was managed to be a service center e.g. first aid, providing of hold-house medicine, screening of diabetic and hypertensive individuals, preventing and monitoring of dengue hemorrhagic fever and bird flu, protection of consumers in health, and surveying of basic minimum needs (BMN).

FACTORS EFFECTING ITS SUCCESSFULNESS
