SUMMARY

Objective of this VHVs work was to carry out preventing and solving aids problems’ projects and activities at Baan Nong Aek, Muang Kukdaharn, Mukdaharn province. A series of projects and activities have been continuously operated such as Mukdaharn empowerment to solve aids problems (2002), Mukdaharn collaboration to fix aids problems (2003), love sharing to child whom suffered from aids problems (2005-present), development of Mukdaharn aids patients (2005-present), accessing to medical treatment of aids patients (2005-present), and friends help friends (2004-present). This offered a chance to make more understanding about aids among villagers, HIV infectious individuals and aids patients. From 13 HIV infectious individuals and aids patients, 8 person declared themselves to share life style within the community, and 12 persons had their opportunity to access conventional medical treatment. A network to handle HIV infectious individuals and aids patients was successfully formed within the village, and later extended to 7 networks in Mukdaharn province. In conclusion, more understanding and self-realizing about aids has been processed to villagers, which unconditionally accepted to share life styles with HIV infectious individuals and aids patients. A helpful bead innovation was used to try out as a tool for the assessment of aids’ risk, contributing aids knowledge to villagers.

SITUATION AND SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROBLEM

The problem of HIV infection and aids patients at Baan Nong Aek, Tambon bang Sai Yai, Muang Mukdaharn, Mukdaharn province, had been stated as worse situation, due to villagers’ uncontrollable sexual behaviors. Up to 2014, a number of 13 HIV infectious individuals and aids patients was reported. Most villagers were lack of understanding and self-realization to aids. Interestingly, HIV infectious individuals had usually been banned from their community, be unable to access medical treatment, and be troubled to share their life styles with the community. All these aids problems inspired the author, whom had been declared herself to her community as an HIV infectious one, to carry out continuous projects and activities for preventing and solving aid problems within the community. This aimed to contribute understanding and self-realizing about aids among villagers, HIV infectious individuals and aids patients. A network of aids patients would be formed to handle the patients, to be cured reasonably in medical treatment. Extension of the aids patient network, would be arranged to other communities of Mukdaharn province.

FRAMEWORK(S) /SCOPE

To carry out projects and activities of preventing and solving aids problems within the area of Baan Nong Aek, Muang Kukdaharn, Mukdaharn province, and to extend aids patient networks to other communities of Mukdaharn province, between 2002 and 2014.

OBJECTIVE(S)

To provide understanding and self-realizing about aids among villagers, HIV infectious individuals and aids patients, aiming to improve their health, social and life quality.

PROCEDURE

Operation Plan ; Effective networks to handle HIV infectious individuals and aids patients, activities and projects to prevent and solve aids problems occurred in the community, were used to assess.


Action ; Community’s VHVs were invited to form team works to carry out the missions of preventing and solving aids problems, as well as formation of aids patient network.

ASSESSMENT

Out-Puts
• A series of projects and activities of preventing and solving aids problems had been achieved successively such as Mukdaharn empowerment to solve aids problems (2002), Mukdaharn collaboration to fix aids problems (2003), love sharing to child whom suffered from aids problems (2005-present), development of Mukdaharn aids patients (2005-present), accessing to medical treatment of aids patients (2005-present), and friends help friends (2004-present).
• From 13 HIV infectious individuals and aids patients of the village, 8 persons declared themselves to the community without a sign of banning, and 12 persons had their chance to access occasionally medical treatments.
• A network to handle HIV infectious individuals and aids patients was successfully formed within the village, and later be extended to 7 networks of Mukdaharn province. • More understanding and self-realizing about aids had been provided to villagers, in which most villagers unconditionally accepted to share life styles with HIV infectious individuals and aids patients.
• A helpful bead innovation was used to successfully carry out in the assessment of aids’ risk, contributing knowledge about aids to villagers.
• From 80 target villagers from Tambon Bang Sai Yai, Tambon Kam Arhuan and Mukdaharn metropolitan area, whom being supposed as risk individuals, 30 persons decided to get counseling and 8 persons took their decision for blood detection.

Out-Comes
• The projects and activities to prevent and solve aids problems at Bann Nong Aek, were operated subsequently and effectively since 2002, enabling a chance to villagers, HIV infectious individuals and aids patients to elucidate more understanding about aids. An effective aids patients’ network was established within the community, and then be extended to be 7 networks in other communities of Mukdaharn province. The networks are helpful for handling HIV infectious individuals and aids patients.
• At patient level, their life quality have been better improved, be capable of medical treatment, no sign of banning from community, and spent their life styles as usual. And some risk villagers had decided themselves for counseling and blood detection.
• At community level, villagers had realized themselves to share life styles with HIV infectious individuals and aids patients, and collaborated to prevent and solve aids problems. This is one of successful signs of the projects.

FACTORS EFFECTING ITS SUCCESSFULNESS

Author MRS. THAWANRATTANA KONGROD, is one of HIV infectious victims, bravely declared herself to thecommunity and deserved himself as a village health volunteer since 2004 (emphasized in HIV/aids area).

Mentor team Academic supports and advisory action from village headmen, community’s leaders, abbots, Tambon legislative authority, school’s directors, health care officers from Tambon health promoting hospital and social welfare officers from Mukdaharn hospital.
